How to trick a parent into buying Pokémon games

This autumn, the Japanese market will see the re-releases of Gold and Silver, in prepped up versions called HeartGold and SoulSilver. The most interesting thing, for a parent at least, is the gadget bundled with the games: a pedometer!

The Pokeped can carry one Pokémon at a time, and as the owner walks around, the Pokémon will level up. Later, it can be transferred back to the game. Pretty neat, I expect these will sell big in the US! ;)

Upgrade, upgrade, patch, patch

WordPress is always updated to the latest build, and tonight I’ve also upgraded Enthusiast and added a CAPTCHA alternative – as it seems at least one of our fanlistings have been the target for spammers. I want to express my sincerest thank you to the nitwits who makes sure to keep amateur website maintainers on our toes, spending our spare hours on patching scripts rather than adding content to our sites. Meh.

Adoption progress, Pokemon extras, MONSTER! closed

The adoption post from earlier this week is now no longer valid; all the relevant fanlistings have either been adopted out or closed. Adrian convinced me to keep three; the ones for Crocodilians, Groudon and Cartoon Network – meaning those are no longer up for taking. Thank you to everyone who applied, you should all have heard from us by now! I am expecting to make another post within the next two weeks, with the new locations for the fanlistings that were adopted out.

I’ve added some extras to the Pokemon series fanlisting, and will work on adding several skins to it over the next couple of weeks, using the layouts from those fanlistings that have been adopted out/closed.

Final update: the MONSTER! directory has been closed. We have not been able to find a simple yet secure directory script to replace the modified PHPFanBase that was used originally, and after nearly two years’ hiatus the only right thing to do was to close it. Feel free to remove any links back.

Gift and some changes

One of our fanlistings, the one for author Tove Jansson, has been closed. Please get in touch if you are starting one for her, we can provide you with a backup of the members plus link buttons. Another fanlisting has been adopted out, the fanlisting for Geckos is now with Marieke.

Christmas so far has been fun for the kids, despite the lack of snow and the fact that the Christmassy frost melted away the day before Santa visited.. Both kids got a Nintendo DS Lite, and Adrian got Pokemon Diamond as his first game. Yay for more ways to have fun with Pokemon!

We are huge Pokemon fans, about a third of our owned fanlistings are Pokemon themed and located on a separate domain; pokemonfan.org. This month our mum ordered us some really neat figures from gin, an american girl living in Japan, and we received a parcel from her only days later – with awesome drawings on it and Pockys for our mum included! You can see our Pokemon collection at flickr; we will add pictures of our newest figures tomorrow!

Shaun the Sheep!

So, we mention at the boys’ presentation page that they love the people at Aardman Animations – and here’s another reason for that: S h a u n. <3 As in Shaun the Sheep, last seen in Wallace and Gromit’s “A Close Shave” – now running his own little show at BBC. At his website you can wallow in everything a fan would want; videos, games, printouts – they also provide all kinds of graphics, like screenshots, wallpapers, logos, banners; even the psd files! Here’s a video clip, and some of what they write in the text material you can download – this is the 2 paragraph text: ;)

Shaun is a sheep who doesn’t follow the flock – in fact, he leads them into all sort of scrapes and scraps, turning peace in the valley into mayhem in the meadow. Shaun and his pals run rings around their poor sheepdog Bitzer, as he tries to stop the Farmer finding out what’s going on behind his back. The show also introduces a farmyard-full of new characters, including the Naughty Pigs, Timmy the baby lamb and the enormous Shirley, a sheep who eats anything and everything.

Every day brings a new adventure for Shaun – a stray cabbage bouncing into the field turns into a football feud with the Naughty Pigs, and a freezing cold sheep dip sends him on a commando raid to get hot water from the Farmer’s bathroom. With high-energy slapstick and classic silent comedy in Aardman’s world-beating animation style, one thing’s for sure – when Shaun’s around, the countryside will never be the same again.

HIT Entertainment
This is where we go to meet our friends Pingu the penguin, the whole family’s favourite Kipper, Bob The Builder and many more! Check out the cool shark in the Rubbadubbers section!

Fisher-Price Imaginext
Imaginext has the most awesome dinos and dragons, and now they’ve even got jungle animals! Both Adrian and Sebastian loves exploring this site and give the neat platform game in the Castle section a try.

Hasbro – MonkeyBar TV // MonkeyBar TV Jr
Mostly known for toys like Play-Doh, Littlest Pet Shop, Transformers and Spider-Man. This company’s game website “MonkeyBar TV” offers lots of fun activities in the form of flash games, printouts and more! We also quite like to visit Hasbro’s Play-Doh section, for games and ideas for what to make with our own dough!

Cartoon Network
Cartoon Network’s site is probably the all time favourite, there are so many games at one place – the most commonly played are any of the Scooby-Doo games, and the Tom & Jerry’s trap game.

Nick Jr
This is a newly discovered site for the kids, Sebastian loves to play Diego’s Rain Forest Adventure. It doesn’t really matter that he doesn’t understand a single word that’s being said!

Disney’s Playhouse and Disney Gamefinder
Another one of the most cherished sites, next to Cartoon Network, with all their heroes from TV. Higglytown Heroes, We’re a bit annoyed with the newly renovated site, though – they’ve split the site into a US section and an international section, and so many of our favourites have become inaccessible because of that… :(
